A flexible approach to vibrational perturbation theory using sparse matrix methods

Mark A. Boyer et al.

Summary: A flexible implementation of Rayleigh-Schrodinger vibrational perturbation theory based on sparse linear algebra is presented. This implementation allows for analysis of the largest corrections to energy and transition intensity in expansions of the Hamiltonian, and provides insights into the origins of spectral intensity and transition frequencies.

Preparation and Characterization of the Halogen-Bonding Motif inthe Isolated Cl-•IOH Complex with Cryogenic Ion Vibrational Spectroscopy

Santino J. Stropoli et al.

Summary: In the presence of a halide ion, hypohalous acids can adopt two binding motifs: a hydrogen bond to the acid OH group and a halogen bond between the anion and the acid halogen. The study of the vibrational spectrum of the X-bonded Cl-middotIOH ion-molecule complex reveals that the formation of the XB complex results in a lower frequency of the HOI bending fundamental and elongation of the O-I bond. The frequency of the O-I stretch is also encoded in the spectrum by the weakv=0 -> 2 overtone transition.
