Ultrahard magnetism from mixed-valence dilanthanide complexes with metal-metal bonding

Colin A. Gould et al.

Summary: Mixed-valence dilanthanide complexes with a singly occupied lanthanide-lanthanide sigma-bonding orbital were reported, showing outstanding magnetic properties due to the strong alignment of the sigma-bonding and f electrons on both lanthanides. The combination of a well-isolated high-spin ground state and large magnetic anisotropy in (Cp-iPr5)(2)Dy2I3 results in an enormous coercive magnetic field at high temperatures.

Extraction of Uranium(VI) and Plutonium(IV) by New Tri Alkylcarbamides

Clemence Berger et al.

Summary: The use of tri-alkylcarbamides as novel extractants shows higher capability in co-extracting uranium(VI) and plutonium(IV), with very high separation factors at lower nitric acid concentration. However, the addition of branched alkyl chains can decrease the distribution ratios and separation factors, as well as lower the viscosity of the solvent.

Assessing MP2 frozen natural orbitals in relativistic correlated electronic structure calculations

Xiang Yuan et al.

Summary: This paper presents the implementation of a module for generating natural orbitals (NOs) for correlated wavefunctions, particularly the second order Moller-Plesset perturbation frozen natural orbitals (MP2FNOs), as part of a novel implementation of relativistic coupled cluster theory. The study finds that MP2FNOs accelerate the convergence of correlation energy uniformly across the Periodic Table and reliable estimates for energy and molecular properties can be obtained by truncating the virtual molecular orbital spaces to about half their original size.

Using N,N-dialkylamides for neptunium purification from other actinides for space applications

Jarrod M. Gogolski et al.

Summary: Tributylphosphate (TBP) has been widely used in the solvent extraction of actinides, but its radiolytic decomposition products pose challenges in the production of plutonium-238 and recycle of neptunium-237. Alternative extractants, such as N,N-dialkylamides, with incinerable byproducts have been considered to replace TBP or HDEHP for more efficient production processes.

Relativistic EOM-CCSD for Core-Excited and Core-Ionized State Energies Based on the Four-Component Dirac-Coulomb(-Gaunt) Hamiltonian

Loic Halbert et al.

Summary: Our study presents an implementation of the core-valence separation approach to calculate relativistic core-ionization potentials and core-excitation energies, utilizing the X2C framework. The results show that the X2C molecular mean-field approach is nearly indistinguishable from the reference four-component energies for up to and including fifth-row elements. Additionally, two-electron integrals over small-component basis sets contribute significantly to core binding energies for certain atoms, and the Dirac-Coulomb-Gaunt mean-field calculations are more accurate than X2C calculations with screened spin-orbit interactions.

Scaling up electronic structure calculations on quantum computers: The frozen natural orbital based method of increments

Prakash Verma et al.

Summary: The MI-FNO framework introduces the method of increments and frozen natural orbitals to expedite the application of NISQ devices for quantum chemistry simulations, reducing occupied and virtual orbital spaces systematically. By utilizing algorithms like VQE, it can solve correlation energies for small molecules effectively and significantly reduce quantum resource requirements. This approach creates scalable examples of quantum chemistry problems suitable for assessing NISQ device progress.

Implementation of Relativistic Coupled Cluster Theory for Massively Parallel GPU-Accelerated Computing Architectures

Johann Pototschnig et al.

Summary: This paper reports the reimplementation of core algorithms of relativistic coupled cluster theory for modern heterogeneous high-performance computational infrastructures. The new ExaCorr module is designed for parallel execution on many compute nodes with optional GPU coprocessing, primarily focusing on molecules with heavy elements. It is also interfaced with the DIRAC program for generating molecular orbital coefficients, and improvements in the parallel computing aspects of the relativistic self-consistent field algorithm are briefly discussed.

Considering Density Functional Approaches for Actinide Species: The An66 Molecule Set

Lucas E. Aebersold et al.

Summary: This study compared the effects of 18 different density functionals on the predictions of energetic properties of actinide compounds, specifically focusing on the importance of spin-orbit effects. Investigating a set of 66 small actinide compounds, it was found that both spin-orbit effects and basis set choice played a role in the accuracy of predictions, with the need to consider relativistic effects.

Summary: In this study, parity-violating energies E-PV of H2X2 molecules were calculated and radiative corrections were investigated, with a maximal value of 2.38% found for H2Po2. The results may suggest limitations to the validity of effective self-energy potentials chosen in the analysis.

Summary: Relativistic four-component electronic structure calculations were performed at the density functional level to analyze parity-violation (PV) energy shifts and vibrational effects in the chiral molecule CHFClBr. The results indicate that a 3-mode expansion is sufficient for vibrational analysis.
