Low-Frequency Harmonic Perturbations Drive Protein Conformational Changes

Domenico Scaramozzino et al.

Summary: This study combines two previous approaches to evaluate the complete protein response under dynamic perturbations. The results show that perturbations in the low-frequency range can drive protein conformational changes, which might be triggered by external collisions and favored by the inherent low-frequency dynamics of the protein structure.

Dynamic Connection between Enzymatic Catalysis and Collective Protein Motions

Pedro Ojeda-May et al.

Summary: Through studying adenylate kinase, it was revealed how motions in the active site establish a linkage between catalytic reaction and conformational dynamics by modulating the free energy landscapes of subdomain motions. Following the catalytic reaction, substantial conformational rearrangement occurs in the active site, affecting the reaction barrier and promoting a more open conformation of the enzyme. This study illustrates the linkage between enzymatic catalysis and collective protein motions, bridging the disparate time scales between the two processes.
