The gut microbiome-bile acid axis in hepatocarcinogenesis

Liwei Wu et al.

Summary: Hepatocellular carcinoma is the most common primary liver malignancy with limited therapeutic options. Alterations in bile acids can affect hepatic metabolic balance and contribute to the pathogenesis of liver cancer. The gut microbiota plays a key role in promoting and developing liver cancer.

PPARγ/NF-κB and TGF-β1/Smad pathway are involved in the anti-fibrotic effects of levo-tetrahydropalmatine on liver fibrosis

Qiang Yu et al.

Summary: Levo-tetrahydropalmatine alleviates liver fibrosis by inhibiting extracellular matrix formation and hepatic stellate cells' autophagy, as well as modulating key signaling pathways, ultimately attenuating the progression of liver fibrosis.

Clinical Characteristics of Long-Term Survivors After Sorafenib Treatment for Unresectable Hepatocellular Carcinoma: A Korean National Multicenter Retrospective Cohort Study

Young Youn Cho et al.

Summary: This study evaluated prognostic factors of long-term survivors in Korean patients with unresectable HCC treated with sorafenib. Metformin use, hand-foot skin reaction, and concomitant treatment with chemoembolization or radiotherapy were identified as prognostic factors predicting long-term survival. Poor prognostic factors included a Child-Pugh score of B, presence of extrahepatic metastasis, main portal vein invasion, and elevated alpha-fetoprotein level.
