One-pot Synthesis of Acetals by Tandem Hydroformylation-acetalization of Olefins Using Heterogeneous Supported Catalysts

Xiao Li et al.

Summary: A green route for one-pot synthesis of acetals by tandem hydroformylation-acetalization of olefins using supported Rh-based catalysts was developed. Experimental results showed that under suitable Rh loading, temperature, and time conditions, the catalyst could selectively form acetals. Additionally, this tandem catalysis enhanced the selectivity to valuable linear products.

Air-Stable and Reusable Cobalt Phosphide Nanoalloy Catalyst for Selective Hydrogenation of Furfural Derivatives

Hiroya Ishikawa et al.

Summary: In this study, a supported cobalt phosphide nanoalloy catalyst was developed for the selective hydrogenation of furfural derivatives, showing high efficiency and air stability without the need for H-2 pretreatment. Backdonation from Co d-electrons to the pi* orbital of furfural derivatives was found to play a key role in the highly efficient hydrogenation process.

Expanding the Boundary of Biorefinery: Organonitrogen Chemicals from Biomass

Xi Chen et al.

Summary: Organonitrogen chemicals play crucial roles in pharmaceutical and agricultural products, but current industrial processes rely on nonrenewable resources, urging the need to develop sustainable alternatives. Biomass, as the largest renewable carbon resource, offers a promising solution to integrate into the organonitrogen chemical supply chain for reducing carbon footprint and enhancing economic competitiveness.

Insight into the role of Co2C supported on reduced graphene oxide in Fischer-Tropsch synthesis and ethene hydroformylation

Jianli Chang et al.

Summary: This study investigated the role of Co2C supported on reduced graphene oxide (RGO) in both Fischer-Tropsch (FT) and ethene hydroformylation reactions for the first time. It was found that RGO served as the carbon source for the formation of Co2C, and the promotion of Rh enhanced the activity of Co2C, leading to increased production of ethene hydroformylation products.

Highly selective and robust single-atom catalyst Ru1/NC for reductive amination of aldehydes/ketones

Haifeng Qi et al.

Summary: Single-atom catalyst (SAC) has emerged as a frontier in heterogeneous catalysis, yet its robustness remains a critical concern. Here, a highly active, selective, and robust Ru-1-N-3 SAC is explored for a challenging reaction, reductive amination of aldehydes/ketones for synthesis of primary amines.

Synergetic effects of hydrogenation and acidic sites in phosphorus-modified nickel catalysts for the selective conversion of furfural to cyclopentanone

Guoming Gao et al.

Summary: This study introduced phosphorus to modify the properties of the catalyst, facilitating the conversion of furfural to cyclopentanone. The reaction of phosphorus with alumina and metallic nickel led to the formation of AlPO4 phase and nickel phosphide species, increasing acidic sites abundance and tailoring the selectivity of hydrogenation sites. The balanced distribution of hydrogenation sites and acidic sites was crucial for the selective conversion of furfural to cyclopentanone.
