A damage identification method for connections of adjacent box-beam bridges using vehicle - bridge interaction analysis and model updating

Jiawang Zhan et al.

Summary: This study presents a method to locate and quantitatively evaluate hidden damage in adjacent box-beam connections of precast prestressed concrete box-beam bridges. Through numerical analysis and field measurements, the proposed method is shown to be relatively insensitive to various factors, accurately assess different damage scenarios, and demonstrate good consistency between identified damage indices and in-situ inspection results before bridge repair. The method is also effective in evaluating current damage after repair and is not sensitive to vehicle speed and passing path.

Modal systems identification of an eleven-span concrete motorway off-ramp bridge using various excitations

Ge-Wei Chen et al.

Summary: The study evaluated the influence of different types of dynamic excitation sources on the modal parameter identification of an eleven-span, post-tensioned, curved concrete motorway off-ramp bridge. The natural frequency discrepancies across different excitation methods were small, while the consistency of the estimated damping ratios was poorer. Eccentric mass shaker testing enabled identification of all modes but used heavy equipment, while electrodynamic shaker testing missed only one mode and was easily portable on site.

Damage Detection of Tension Pendulums in Cable-Stayed Bridges Using Structural Frequency Variance

Guang-Ming Wu et al.

Summary: The study developed an effective method for detecting damage to tension pendulums in cable-stayed bridges using structural modal frequencies. Results showed that the frequency change is more sensitive to the damage of tension pendulums than to the damage of stay cables, indicating that a sudden decrease in measured frequency can effectively detect the damage of tension pendulums in cable-stayed bridges.
