Petroleum system analysis-conjoined 3D-static reservoir modeling in a 3-way and 4-way dip closure setting: Insights into petroleum geology of fluvio-marine deposits at BED-2 Field (Western Desert, Egypt)

Mohammad A. Abdelwahhab et al.

Summary: The uncertainties in determining the processes of the petroleum system, such as coincidences, entrapment, and charge timing, as well as reservoir heterogeneity, pose significant risks in petroleum exploration and development. Therefore, a comprehensive subsurface visualization of the petroleum system is crucial. In this study, static reservoir modeling and petroleum system analysis workflows were combined to characterize the Cen-omanian fluvio-marine reservoir in Egypt's Abu Gharadig Basin. The integration of 2D seismic profiles and well logs allowed for the identification of reservoir properties, as well as the timing of charge, migration pathways, and accumulation sites. The results proposed a new hydrocarbon prospect area for further oilfield development, demonstrating the importance of integrated modeling approaches for poorly-defined petroleum systems.

Machine learning-supported seismic stratigraphy of the Paleozoic Nubia Formation (SW Gulf of Suez-rift): Implications for paleoenvironment-petroleum geology of a lacustrine-fan delta

Mohammad A. Abdelwahhab et al.

Summary: This study focuses on the sedimentary facies analysis of the Paleozoic Nubia clastics in the West Esh El Mallaha Concession (southwest Gulf of Suez rift), employing various disciplines such as sequence stratigraphy, seismic stratigraphy, GR-log motifs, and seismic waveform segmentation to depict reservoir heterogeneity and quality. Organic maturity prediction is also crucial in confirming hydrocarbon charging from source units to reservoir intervals. A 1D basin model was established to define past geologic events and their controls on sedimentary basin evolution and petroleum potential. The interdisciplinary approach used in this study successfully characterizes ancient environments and their hydrocarbon potential. The results indicate that the Nubia Formation was deposited during the lowstand-transgressive phase of a 3rd order depositional sequence and contains significant reservoir facies in the form of fluvial channels and mouth bars. The high-quality reservoir facies of the deltaic mouth bars should be considered for further oilfield development plans in similar settings. Overall, the importance of this study is rated as 8/10.

Multi-scale characterization of unconventional tight carbonate reservoir: Insights from October oil filed, Gulf of Suez rift basin, Egypt

Ahmed E. Radwan et al.

Summary: The Radwany Formation in the Gulf of Suez region has been newly identified as a potential reservoir rock with a combination of depositional and diagenetic processes creating various porosity types. Petrophysical evaluations and geochemical analysis have indicated the presence of unconventional and conventional hydrocarbon resources in this formation, particularly in the basal part, making it a valuable area for exploration. The study also highlights the importance of understanding the link between sediment microfacies and petrophysical parameters for predicting hydrocarbon potential in the area.

Modeling the Depositional Environment of the Sandstone Reservoir in the Middle Miocene Sidri Member, Badri Field, Gulf of Suez Basin, Egypt: Integration of Gamma-Ray Log Patterns and Petrographic Characteristics of Lithology

Ahmed E. Radwan

Summary: Understanding the depositional setting of siliciclastics reservoir is essential for exploration and development of hydrocarbon reservoirs. In this study, the absence of core samples in the middle Miocene Sidri Member in the Badri field was addressed by reconstructing its depositional settings using well logging patterns and petrographic characterization. The results indicated a diverse lithofacies, dominant porosity types, and three electrofacies that correspond to different depositional settings, providing valuable insights for similar hydrocarbon reservoirs lacking core samples.

Summary: The study utilized stochastic simulations based on geostatistical analyses with seismic attribute constraints to predict physical properties of the Wutonggou Formation reservoirs and establish a fine 3D geological model. Log interpretation models were utilized to represent the longitudinal distribution of petrophysical parameters, and the structural framework of the strata was constructed based on seismic interpretations. The results showed a compliance rate of 90.98% between the model parameters and production data, indicating a successful characterization of the reservoirs in the study area.
