Thermal and mechanical properties of glass fibre reinforced polyphenylene ether/polystyrene/nylon-6 ternary blends

Prakash Hadimani et al.

Summary: This paper explores the fabrication and characterization of unique polyphenylene ether/polystyrene/nylon-6/glass composites, investigating the impact of maleic anhydride, fiber type and content, as well as fabrication method on mechanical and thermal properties. The study found that maleic anhydride had a negative influence on the properties, with composites containing 40 wt. % chopped fibers exhibiting superior mechanical strength and those with 30 wt. % long fibers showing better thermal properties. Injection molded specimens showed superior mechanical and thermal properties compared to compression molded ones.

Preparation and Properties of Enhanced Bio-Based PLA/PA6/Graphene Nanocomposites in the Presence of an Ester-Amide Exchange Catalyst

Saeid Rahimipour et al.

Summary: In this study, a protocol utilizing a ester-amide exchange catalyst, GN nanofiller, and the presence of PA6 phase was developed to enhance the mechanical properties of PLA biopolymer. The addition of cobalt(II) acetylacetonate (Cat) as a catalyst resulted in good compatibility and dispersion of the GN nanoparticles within the polymer matrix, leading to improved elongation at break and tensile strength of the PLA blends and nanocomposites. The thermal stability of the samples decreased slightly but remained comparable to pure PLA, while DSC and DMTA analysis showed lower T-g, T-m, and crystallinity values in the presence of Cat.

Significant enhancement in the electrical conductance properties of ethylene propylene diene monomer using the nano-SiO2 particles

Chunyu Xu et al.

Summary: The study found that as the content of nano-silica increases, the electrical conductivity and threshold field strength of EPDM nanocomposites gradually decrease. Samples with a small number of nanoparticles increase the activation energy of carrier conductivity, and the interface region effect introduced by nanoparticles reduces carrier mobility and concentration, resulting in a lower conductivity. Comparing the calculated dielectric constant with the measured value suggests that the high-field conductance process is dominated by the electrode effect and Schottky effect.
