Two high-risk clones of carbapenemase-producing Klebsiella pneumoniae that cause infections in pets and are present in the environment of a veterinary referral hospital

Michael Brilhante et al.

Summary: This study used whole-genome sequencing to analyze CPKp strains causing infections in hospitalized pets, finding them closely related to environmental strains. These findings confirmed nosocomial spread and highlighted veterinary hospitals as a potential source of CPKp, with potential spread to animals, the environment, and humans.

A global perspective on the convergence of hypervirulence and carbapenem resistance in Klebsiella pneumoniae

Peng Lan et al.

Summary: Hypervirulence and carbapenem resistance have emerged as two distinct evolutionary directions for Klebsiella pneumoniae, posing a great threat in clinical settings. CR-hvKP strains, integrating both phenotypes, have become increasingly prevalent globally, primarily in Asia. The mechanisms for the emergence of CR-hvKP can be summarised by three patterns, and continued surveillance of their dissemination should be highly prioritised.
