Random forests for high-dimensional longitudinal data

Louis Capitaine et al.

Summary: Random forests are a state-of-the-art supervised machine learning method that performs well in high-dimensional settings. By introducing a new method that considers intra-individual covariance, the approach achieved good and consistent results in an HIV vaccine trial.

Cognitive trajectories of patients with focal ss-amyloid deposition

Si Eun Kim et al.

Summary: In this study, 240 participants were followed up for 2 years to investigate cognitive trajectories of patients with focal Ass deposition. The rate of cognitive decline in the Focal-FMM group was faster than the No-FMM group in CU and aMCI stages, but slower than the Diffuse-FMM group in the CU stage. Participants with larger extent of FMM uptake showed faster cognitive decline within the Focal-FMM group.

Individual changes in anthropometric measures after age 60 years: a 15-year longitudinal population-based study

Jie Guo et al.

Summary: The study found that as age increases, body weight and muscle mass tend to decrease. Higher education and vigorous physical activity can slow down this decline, while cardiometabolic disorders accelerate it.

Differentiating traits and states identifies the importance of chronic neuropsychiatric symptoms for cognitive prognosis in mild dementia

Lasse M. Giil et al.

Summary: Neuropsychiatric symptoms in patients with mild Alzheimer's disease and Lewy-body dementia are associated with poor cognitive outcomes, primarily due to differences in symptom burden between individuals rather than changes within individuals. This suggests that long-term monitoring of NPS is more beneficial in identifying patients with poor cognitive outcomes.

Adding cognition to AT(N) models improves prediction of cognitive and functional decline

Deirdre M. O'Shea et al.

Summary: This study aimed to determine whether adding cognition to an AT(N) biomarker model could predict rates of cognitive and functional decline in older adults without dementia. Results showed that baseline cognitive status improved the prediction of decline in memory and function over a 4-year period, even when considering AT(N) biomarkers.
