Effect of dynamic recrystallization on texture orientation and grain refinement of Ti6Al4V titanium alloy subjected to laser shock peening

Xinlei Pan et al.

Summary: This paper systematically investigated the DRX mechanism and its effects on grain refinement in Ti6Al4V titanium alloy subjected to LSP using EBSD and TEM characterization. The results showed that the DRX mechanism induced by shear bands played a vital role in texture transition and grain refinement during LSP.

Strengthening characteristics in TC17 titanium alloy treated during LSP

Yingwu Fang

Summary: The study investigated the strengthening characteristics of TC17 titanium alloy treated during laser shock processing (LSP) through simulation and experiment. It was found that the spot overlap ratio has a significant impact on the distribution of residual stresses, and adopting a 60% overlap ratio can greatly increase residual compressive stress.

A review on wire and arc additive manufacturing of titanium alloy

Zidong Lin et al.

Summary: Wire and arc additive manufacturing (WAAM) is an economic and efficient technology suitable for producing large-scale metallic components, particularly in the fabrication of near-net-shape and large-scale titanium alloys. It has been significantly noticed and adopted due to its high deposition rate, low machinery cost, and shortened lead time compared to other powder-based additive manufacturing techniques.

Effects of laser shock peening on microstructural evolution and wear property of laser hybrid remanufactured Ni25/Fe104 coating on H13 tool steel

H. F. Lu et al.

Summary: Laser cladding and massive laser shock peening treatment were used to repair damaged H13 tool steel, improving the mechanical properties of the coating and enhancing its wear resistance. The treatment transformed residual stress, generated high-density dislocations and mechanical twins in the coating, and induced surface nanocrystallization to improve microhardness and wear resistance.

Experimental realisation of build orientation effects on the mechanical properties of truly as-built Ti-6Al-4V SLM parts

Alireza Dareh Baghi et al.

Summary: The study found that vertically built parts are prone to premature fracture in their truly as-built condition, while horizontally fabricated parts perform similarly to post-treated samples. Additionally, the analysis of the tensile test results showed that the fracture stress of truly as-built vertical parts is below the yield stress of horizontal parts, at approximately 38% of the Ultimate Tensile Strength.

In-situ alloying in laser-based additive manufacturing processes: A critical review

Mohammad Hossein Mosallanejad et al.

Summary: The current challenge in additive manufacturing lies in the availability and cost of feedstock, with a growing number of studies focusing on in-situ alloying using elemental blends rather than pre-alloyed powders. This strategy provides greater flexibility to additive manufacturing methods, paving the way towards meeting the industry's evolving needs.

Uncovering the coupled impact of defect morphology and microstructure on the tensile behavior of Ti-6Al-4V fabricated via laser powder bed fusion

Timothy Montalbano et al.

Summary: This paper presents a systematic approach to relate mechanical properties and microstructure in the keyhole and lack of fusion domains for Ti-6Al-4V parts. It is shown that, at a similar amount of defects, it is more favorable to be in the keyhole domain than in the lack of fusion domain, due to higher sphericity and crystallographic texture. This finding is critical in ensuring optimal part performance in SLM Ti-6Al-4V parts.

Cryoforged nanotwinned titanium with ultrahigh strength and ductility

Shiteng Zhao et al.

Summary: Nanostructured metals are usually strong due to high internal boundary density, limiting dislocation mean free path, but also more brittle. Nanotwinned materials can overcome this trade-off. A new nanostructuring method enhances the strength and ductility of titanium.
