Ag NP catalysis of Cu ions in the preparation of AgCu NPs and the mechanism of their enhanced antibacterial efficacy

Fang Zhou et al.

Summary: The aqueous dispersions of AgCu nanoparticles with enhanced antibacterial efficacy were prepared by the catalyzed reduction of Cu ions by PVP/PVA-stabilized Ag nanoparticles at 85 degrees C. The enhanced antibacterial performance of these nanoparticles was correlated with the release of Ag ions, proposing a simple model of AgCu NP formation and an enhanced antibacterial efficacy mechanism involving Ag ion release.

Preparation and antibacterial properties of gold nanoparticles: a review

Xiao Gu et al.

Summary: Gold nanoparticles are considered promising antibacterials due to their high specific surface area, easy modification, and broad-spectrum antibacterial activity. Their antibacterial properties are closely related to particle size, dispersibility, and surface modification, which can be adjusted by reaction conditions. Various synthesis methods and the effects of reaction conditions on particle dispersibility and size are discussed in relation to antibacterial activities and mechanisms.

Microstructure, mechanical behaviour and antibacterial activity of biomedical Ti-xMn-yCu alloys

M. Alqattan et al.

Summary: The new ternary Ti-xMn-yCu alloys, designed for antibacterial capability in metallic biomedical implants, are manufactured via powder metallurgy to produce chemically homogeneous materials at lower cost. Mechanical behavior and antibacterial efficiency of the alloys increase with the amount of alloying elements, with Mn-dominant alloys generally having better properties and Cu-dominant alloys recommended for biomedical applications requiring high ductility.

Yury Shubin et al.

Summary: In this study, sponge-like porous Ni-Mo-W alloys were prepared as catalysts for the catalytic chemical vapor deposition of 1,2-dichloroethane. The synthesis of the alloys was performed via high-temperature reductive thermolysis of multicomponent precursors, showing synergistic effects of Mo and W on process efficiency during the decomposition of 1,2-dichloroethane. The catalytic activity of the alloys was studied in a flow-through reactor at 600 degrees C for 2 hours.
