Effect of Laser Shock Peening on Properties of Heat-Treated Ti-6Al-4V Manufactured by Laser Powder Bed Fusion

Inkyu Yeo et al.

Summary: By combining laser shock peening (LSP) with post-heat treatment, enhanced surface properties, improved toughness, and restored surface hardness and wear resistance can be achieved in Ti-6Al-4V LPBF fabricated products. This approach also effectively reduces the corrosion rate, showing promising results for enhancing both impact toughness and surface properties in LPBF-fabricated Ti-6Al-4V products.

Plastic deformation behavior of titanium alloy by warm laser shock peening: Microstructure evolution and mechanical properties

Xinlei Pan et al.

Summary: The plastic deformation behavior of Ti6Al4V titanium alloy was improved by the higher density of dislocations and deformation twins induced by WLSP at high temperature. In addition, the formation of an amorphization layer on the surface and the increased compressive residual stress and microhardness were observed after WLSP treatment.
