K. A. Morgan et al.

Summary: The optimization of sputtered bismuth telluride and germanium telluride at 300 degrees C showed enhanced performance of thermoelectric generators on polyimide substrates. Post-annealing, the power factor of BiTe films increased up to 2.2 μW/cmK(2) and GeTe increased by over 5 orders of magnitude to 7.6 μW/cmK(2). A flexible thermoelectric generator was fabricated using alternating annealed BiTe and GeTe strips, achieving 7 nW of output power per pair at a temperature difference of 20 degrees C.

Enhanced power factor and thermoelectric performance for n-type Bi2Te2.7Se0.3 based composites incorporated with 3D topological insulator nanoinclusions

Bushra Jabar et al.

Summary: Incorporation of nano-sized 3D topological insulator Bi2Se3 in n-type Bi2Te2.7Se0.3 alloy leads to improved electron mobility and electrical conductivity, as well as enhanced Seebeck coefficient due to energy dependent carrier scattering. Additionally, the inclusion of 3D-TI nanoinclusions results in enhanced phonon scattering, leading to a significant increase in power factor and decrease in total thermal conductivity of the material, ultimately increasing the figure of merit ZT.

Summary: Nanostructuring is a common method to enhance the thermoelectric properties of materials, but nanostructured bismuth antimony telluride alloys often suffer from carrier mobility degradation at interfaces. This study shows a new approach by introducing intrinsic Sb-rich precipitates in Bi0.5Sb1.5Te3 alloys to enhance phonon scattering and modulate carrier transport simultaneously. Experimental and theoretical analysis reveals that the optimized sample exhibits outstanding thermoelectric performance at high temperatures.
