Morphology characteristics of α precipitates related to the crystal defects and the strain accommodation of variant selection in a metastable α titanium alloy

Ruifeng Dong et al.

Summary: The research highlights the evolution of alpha precipitates from dot-like to lath-like, V-shaped clusters, or triangular ones during aging treatment. The study also confirms that variant selection of alpha precipitates induced by the transformation strain and the interplay between alpha variants and the dislocations are key factors for the formation of these morphologies.

Summary: The plastic behavior of metastable fl-titanium alloys was investigated at different temperatures. The alloy exhibited a more homogeneous plasticity, high serrated frequency, and overall strain hardening at elevated temperature. This dynamic reconstruction of the fl-striations resulted in stress rise and has important implications for applications.

Hot deformation behavior and microstructural evolution of supersaturated Inconel 783 superalloy

Ke Tang et al.

Summary: The study on hot deformation behaviors of supersaturated Inconel 783 superalloys revealed the optimal temperature and strain rate range to be 1100-1200 degrees C and near or below 0.1 s(-1) but higher than 0.01 s(-1). The microstructural observation showed that the recrystallized degree and grain size were affected by temperature and strain rate differently.

Microstructure evolution and hot deformation behavior of carbon nanotube reinforced 2009Al composite with bimodal grain structure

K. Ma et al.

Summary: The hot deformation behaviors of bimodal carbon nanotube reinforced 2009Al (CNT/2009Al) composite were investigated by establishing processing map and characterizing microstructure evolution. The results showed that the grain size in the ultra-fine grained zones remained stable during deformation, while the coarse grained zones elongated and tended to be perpendicular to the compression direction. Low temperature with high strain rate (LTHR) and high temperature with low strain rate (HTLR) could increase the length/width ratio of the coarse grained zones, but also led to instable deformation.

Summary: The flow behaviors of 300M steel were studied through hot compression experiments, and a modified constitutive model was established to accurately quantify the flow behaviors. The microstructure evolution mechanism was analyzed and the deformation parameters were optimized to improve the microstructure of the alloy. The power dissipation efficiency was identified as a key index to evaluate the DRX degree and flow instability of 300M steel.

Investigation on Hot Workability of Ti-37 At Pct Nb Alloy Based on Processing Map and Microstructural Evolution

Dong Sun et al.

Summary: The Ti-37 at pct Nb alloy has been successfully applied to engineering fields due to its excellent superconductivity and ductility. A processing map based on dynamic material modeling via stress-strain curves has been constructed to optimize hot processing parameters for the TiNb alloy. The study shows that the alloy has two appropriate working domains, with high deformation temperature contributing to the formation of fiber textures, but dynamic recovery and incomplete recrystallization are ineffective at high strain rates.
