Single-crystal-like black Zr-TiO2 nanotube array film: An efficient photocatalyst for fast reduction of Cr(VI)

Shiqi Wang et al.

Summary: The simultaneous enhancement of bulk and surface separation of photoinduced charges by combining crystallographic preferred orientation and surface oxygen vacancies in single crystal-like black Zr doped TiO2 nanotube arrays film presented an effective photocatalytic reduction of heavy metal ions. The introduction of crystallographic preferred orientation suppressed recombination centers in bulk and facilitated rapid separation/migration of photo-generated carriers, while the surface oxygen vacancies acted as electron trapping sites to inhibit charges recombination and widen the light-absorption range up to 1200 nm. The resulting BLK-Zr-NTAs exhibited outstanding photocatalytic performance towards Cr(VI) reduction without the need for sacrificial agents or co-catalysts, making it one of the best photocatalysts reported for this purpose.

Hydrogenation of TiO2 nanosheets and nanoparticles: typical reduction stages and orientation-related anisotropic disorder

Peiru Zheng et al.

Summary: Nanostructured black TiO2 materials prepared through a hydrogenation process have shown strong light absorption and utilization performances, which are of significant interest in solar energy harvesting and conversion technologies. By combining RMD simulations and DFT calculations, the structural evolution mechanisms during the hydrogenation process of TiO2 nanosheets and nanoparticles of different phases have been systematically unraveled. The surface reactivity of the structures follows a specific order, and the reduction rates are dependent on temperature, pressure, and H-2 content.
