Production of indole by Corynebacterium glutamicum microbial cell factories for flavor and fragrance applications

Melanie Mindt et al.

Summary: The biotechnological production process established in this study provides an attractive route for sustainable indole production from tryptophan in C. glutamicum. Industrially relevant indole titers were achieved within 24 hours and indole was concentrated in the organic layer as a pure product after fermentation.

Adaptive laboratory evolution accelerated glutarate production by Corynebacterium glutamicum

Carina Prell et al.

Summary: Adaptive laboratory evolution was used to improve a C. glutamicum strain engineered for glutarate production by coupling growth to product biosynthesis pathway. The fastest growing mutant showed a twofold higher volumetric productivity compared to the parental strain. Genome sequencing and reverse genetics were used to identify mutations for accelerated glutarate production.

Galactocerebroside biosynthesis pathways of Mycoplasma species: an antigen triggering Guillain-Barre-Stohl syndrome

Erika Gaspari et al.

Summary: This study compared genome sequences of Mycoplasma species to identify genetic determinants of galactocerebroside biosynthesis, which may be a key factor in triggering Guillain-Barre-Stohl syndrome in Mycoplasma pneumoniae infections. The analysis revealed a protein domain associated with UDP-glucose epimerase, highlighting the pathogenic mechanisms underlying the syndrome.
