A comparative study on effective density, shape factor, and volatile mixing of non-spherical particles using tandem aerodynamic diameter, mobility diameter, and mass measurements

Mohsen Kazemimanesh et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effective density, dynamic shape factor, and volatile mixing of non-spherical non-homogenous particles using a combination of aerosol instruments. The results showed that the effective density of particles varied with size, the dynamic shape factor increased with mobility diameter, and smaller particles had a higher volatile mass fraction.

Particle emissions measurements on CNG vehicles focusing on Sub-23nm

Zisimos Toumasatos et al.

Summary: The study found that passenger cars operating on compressed natural gas (CNG) had lower solid particle number emissions compared to gasoline vehicles when the particle size threshold was 23 nm, but similar emissions when the threshold was lowered to 10 nm or 2.5 nm. Specifically, the Euro 6 b vehicle exceeded the Euro 6 emission standard for 2.5 nm particles, while emissions for 23 nm particles were significantly lower than the limits for CNG and gasoline. Particle size distributions revealed particles below the regulated 23 nm limit, indicating the current threshold may be insufficient for particle emission testing.

Chemical characterization of size-selected nanoparticles emitted by a gasoline direct injection engine: Impact of a catalytic stripper

Dumitru Duca et al.

Summary: This study combines laser desorption/ionization mass spectrometry (L2MS) and advanced statistical techniques to investigate the impact of a catalytic stripper (CS) on the chemical composition of gasoline direct injection engine exhaust, focusing on the evolution of size-dependent chemical characteristics. The research demonstrates the necessity of a fine molecular-level characterization of exhaust particulate matter to evaluate the effect of the CS, especially for ultra-fine particles carrying the largest volatile fraction.
