Recycling of Triplets into Singlets for High-Performance Organic Lasers

Chathuranganie A. M. Senevirathne et al.

Summary: Organic semiconductors face challenges in achieving continuous-wave lasing due to triplet quenching of singlets via singlet-triplet annihilation (STA). This study introduces a triplet recycling process utilizing triplet-triplet annihilation (TTA) to convert triplets into emissive singlet excitons in a laser medium, allowing for long pulse operation without the detrimental effects of STA. The unique triplet recycling behavior is confirmed through transient photoluminescence and electroluminescence studies.

Highly Efficient Near-Infrared Electrofluorescence from a Thermally Activated Delayed Fluorescence Molecule

Umamahesh Balijapalli et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates a highly efficient NIR emitter with thermally activated delayed fluorescence (TADF) and its application to NIR-OLEDs, achieving unprecedented EQE of 13.4% with a peak wavelength at 734 nm. The TPA-PZTCN emitter can sensitize a deeper NIR fluorophore to achieve an EQE of over 1% in a TADF-sensitized NIR-OLED with high operational durability.

Light Amplification and Efficient Electroluminescence from a Solution-Processable Diketopyrrolopyrrole Derivative via Triplet-to-Singlet Upconversion

Atul Shukla et al.

Summary: Efficient electroluminescence (EL) and low amplified spontaneous emission (ASE) thresholds were achieved in a solution-processable organic laser dye, DT-DPP, through the use of triplet excitons and thermally activated delayed fluorescence (TADF). The organic light-emitting diode fabricated from this system showed a high external quantum efficiency (EQE) of 7.9% due to the efficient utilization of triplet excitons. High reverse intersystem crossing rate was found to be crucial in achieving lasing under electrical pumping from such TADF-assisted fluorescent systems.

Markedly Improved Performance of Optically Pumped Organic Lasers with Two-Dimensional Distributed-Feedback Gratings

Chathuranganie A. M. Senevirathne et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates that it is possible to decrease the laser thresholds of organic laser dyes by combining them with two-dimensional distributed-feedback gratings. The mixed-order circular DFB grating structure showed the lowest lasing threshold and improved laser stability under continuous-wave photoexcitation.
