Motivating high-valence Nb doping by fast molten salt method for NiFe hydroxides toward efficient oxygen evolution reaction

Ya-Nan Zhou et al.

Summary: In this study, a molten salt method was used to incorporate Nb into NiFe-layered double hydroxides, resulting in Nb-NiFe-LDH with enhanced OER activity. The material exhibited low overpotential, small Tafel slope, and long-term stability, attributed to the fine-tuned surface adsorption ability and optimized oxidation cycle of active metals by synergistic Nb and defects.

Directional regulating dynamic equilibrium to continuously update electrocatalytic interface for oxygen evolution reaction

Ruo-Yao Fan et al.

Summary: The construction of a stable catalytic interface is crucial for water splitting. This study demonstrates that the FeOOH-transformation equilibrium and the Fe* adsorption dissolution equilibrium can be simultaneously regulated to achieve continuous update of the catalytic interface. By changing the Fe3+ concentration in alkaline electrolyte, FeOOH-Ni-based oxygen evolution catalysts with high activity and long-term stability can be synthesized. The strategy of directionally regulating ion equilibrium at the dynamic interface is effective for almost all nickel-based materials and can conveniently maintain the activity and stability of the catalysts.

Electrochemical synthesis of amorphous metal hydroxide microarrays with rich defects from MOFs for efficient electrocatalytic water oxidation

Jieting Ding et al.

Summary: A new in-situ electrochemical approach was developed to synthesize efficient oxygen evolution reaction (OER) electrocatalysts by activating the redox reactions of metal ions to form highly active amorphous metal hydroxides with abundant oxygen defects. The optimized composite material exhibited rich catalytic sites, good conductivity, and short ion diffusion paths, leading to excellent OER activity. Further experimental and theoretical results confirmed the formation of defective amorphous metal oxy(hydroxide) as the real active species for this electrocatalytic reaction.
