Using crop diversity to lower pesticide use: Socio-ecological approaches

Summary: Since the end of World War II, farming practices based on large monocultures and chemical use have had negative effects on the health of farmers and consumers, as well as reduced farmland biodiversity. This has led to agriculture facing challenges in feeding the growing world population with environmentally friendly products while providing a reasonable return for producers. Enhancing biocontrol efficiency could help meet these expectations, with a focus on managing landscape-level crop diversity to reduce pesticide use and enhance conservation biocontrol services.

Interactive relationship between non-farm employment and mechanization service expenditure in rural China

Summary: The study found that there is an interactive relationship between non-farm employment and mechanization service expenditure, with non-farm employment significantly increasing mechanization service expenditure, and vice versa. The impact of non-farm employment on mechanization service expenditure varies between male and female household heads and households with different member sizes. Additionally, local non-farm employment has a larger impact on mechanization service expenditure compared to provincial non-farm employment.

The impact of land consolidation on arable land productivity: A differentiated view of soil and vegetation productivity

The study showed that land consolidation had a positive impact on both vegetation and soil productivity, with soil productivity exhibiting a stronger response. The effectiveness of land consolidation was characterized by temporal attenuation, following a trajectory of increase-stability, and was more prominent during the farming period, particularly in terms of soil productivity.

Agricultural land consolidation, labor allocation and land productivity: A case study of plot exchange policy in Vietnam

The inverse relationship between farm size and productivity: Refocusing the debate

Renting-in cropland, machinery use intensity, and land productivity in rural China

Summary: This study explores the impact of renting-in cropland on machinery use intensity using an innovative ETPR model and analyzes how machinery use intensity affects wheat yields and net returns. Results show that renting-in cropland significantly increases self-owned machinery use intensity, while having a negligible impact on purchased machinery service use intensity. Increasing machinery use intensity can significantly enhance wheat yields and net returns, indicating the importance of considering stakeholders' land transfer status in policies promoting agricultural mechanization and land productivity.
