Electron probe microanalysis: A review of recent developments and applications in materials science and engineering

Xavier Llovet et al.

Summary: Electron probe microanalysis (EPMA) is a widely used microanalytical technique for material characterization, developed since the 1950s. Significant methodological developments in EPMA have occurred in the last three decades, including the incorporation of new instruments and improvements in techniques, leading to a wide range of new possibilities for material characterization. EPMA has shown great capabilities in materials science and engineering applications, and continues to offer new research opportunities.

Mechanical strength and fatigue lifetime of WC-Co cemented carbide in relation to the effectively loaded volume and surface

Milan Peschkes et al.

Summary: WC-Co hard metals are increasingly used in parts with complex and high fatigue loading situations. The method of effectively loaded volume and surface has been proven to work well for static loading conditions and can also be applied to cyclic loading conditions. The transition from characteristic fracture strength to fatigue limit across different geometries has been demonstrated and matches the experimental data.
