Optimal beam angle selection and knowledge-based planning significantly reduces radiotherapy dose to organs at risk for lung cancer patients

L. Hoffmann et al.

Summary: This study investigates the impact of IMRT and VMAT plans on OARs dose, with the introduction of a RapidPlan model resulting in reduced doses to OARs. Validation of the model demonstrates significant reduction in lung and heart doses after the second RapidPlan implementation.

Association of Left Anterior Descending Coronary Artery Radiation Dose With Major Adverse Cardiac Events and Mortality in Patients With Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer

Katelyn M. Atkins et al.

Summary: This cohort study explores the impact of radiation doses to cardiac substructures on major adverse cardiac events and mortality in patients with locally advanced non-small cell lung cancer. The findings suggest that dose exposure to the left anterior descending coronary artery may be an independent factor associated with adverse cardiac events and mortality, with significant interaction with baseline coronary heart disease status. Further validation and optimization of risk mitigation strategies are needed.

Statin Use, Heart Radiation Dose, and Survival in Locally Advanced Lung Cancer

Katelyn M. Atkins et al.

Summary: This study aimed to assess whether statin therapy is a predictor of overall survival in patients with locally advanced non-small cell lung cancer after thoracic radiation therapy. The results showed that statin use was associated with an increased risk of all-cause mortality but not major adverse cardiac events in these patients.

Mean Heart Dose Is an Inadequate Surrogate for Left Anterior Descending Coronary Artery Dose and the Risk of Major Adverse Cardiac Events in Lung Cancer Radiation Therapy

Katelyn M. Atkins et al.

Summary: This study found that MHD is insufficient to predict LAD V15Gy with confidence, and there is discordance between MHD and LAD V15Gy. For patients with locally advanced NSCLC, isolated low LAD V15Gy can significantly reduce the risk of MACE.

Knowledge-based inverse treatment planning for low-dose-rate prostate brachytherapy

Christian V. Guthier et al.

Summary: A novel knowledge-based (KB) optimization method was developed for generating clinically acceptable treatment plans for prostate cancer, reducing the need for manual adjustments. This method is able to generate high-quality treatment plans in under a minute, potentially reducing operating room time and anesthesia time.

Knowledge-based intensity-modulated proton planning for gastroesophageal carcinoma

Eren Celik et al.

Summary: A narrow-scope knowledge-based RP model was trained and validated for IMPT delivery in locally advanced cancer of the gastroesophageal junction. The results show that RP can effectively create models for IMPT and demonstrate a high correlation between predicted and achieved doses, supporting the valuable predictive power of the RP method.
