Intolerance of uncertainty and physiological responses during instructed uncertain threat: A multi-lab investigation

Jayne Morriss et al.

Summary: Individuals with high self-reported Intolerance of uncertainty (IU) tend to interpret uncertainty negatively. This study found that IU was associated with physiological responses to predictable and unpredictable threat, as well as the ability to differentiate between threats and safety. These findings suggest that IU-related biases may differ depending on the physiological measure used in uncertain threat tasks.

The role of intolerance of uncertainty in classical threat conditioning: Recent developments and directions for future research

Jayne Morriss et al.

Summary: Intolerance of uncertainty (IU) is a significant factor in mental health disorders, especially in classical threat conditioning procedures. High IU is specifically linked to poorer threat extinction learning and overgeneralization during periods of unexpected uncertainty, while its role in periods of expected uncertainty is mixed and requires further investigation.

Measuring fear: Association among different measures of fear learning

Elena Constantinou et al.

Summary: This study examined the associations among different fear indices in fear conditioning paradigms, finding evidence for the expected correspondence among associative fear learning indices. The results emphasize the importance of incorporating both associative and evaluative learning measures in fear conditioning paradigms.

Intolerance of uncertainty, and not social anxiety, is associated with compromised extinction of social threat

Shannon Wake et al.

Summary: The research indicates that compromised threat extinction is more likely related to high levels of Intolerance of Uncertainty (IU) rather than social anxiety. High IU may be associated with impaired extinction learning and retention processes.
