Miniaturization and Automation of a Human In Vitro Blood-Brain Barrier Model for the High-Throughput Screening of Compounds in the Early Stage of Drug Discovery

Elisa L. J. Moya et al.

Summary: CNS diseases are a major cause of death worldwide, and the difficulty of drug penetration into the brain due to the BBB leads to many failed CNS drug treatments in clinical trials. In order to improve drug discovery efficiency, the use of in vitro BBB models for early screening has proven useful, but the current methods are time-consuming and costly. Researchers have developed a 96-well format human in vitro BBB model, which successfully reduces the use of biological materials and waste.
