Mir-5100 Mediates Proliferation, Migration and Invasion of Oral Squamous Cell Carcinoma Cells Via Targeting SCAI

Zicheng Wei et al.

Summary: The study showed that miR-5100 was upregulated while SCAI was downregulated in OSCC cells. miR-5100 was confirmed to directly target SCAI. Inhibiting miR-5100 suppressed proliferation, altered cell cycle distribution, and reduced invasion and migration abilities of OSCC cells, which could be reversed by SCAI knockdown. In conclusion, silencing miR-5100 inhibited OSCC cell behaviors through regulating SCAI expression, providing potential therapeutic strategies for OSCC treatment.

Circulating microRNA Panel as a Potential Novel Biomarker for Oral Squamous Cell Carcinoma Diagnosis

Kodai Nakamura et al.

Summary: The study identified a combination of six microRNAs that could accurately distinguish oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) from the control group with a higher degree of accuracy compared to traditional serum tumor markers like SCC-Ag. This specific microRNA panel may serve as a novel candidate biomarker for oral cancer diagnosis.

The lnc-CTSLP8 upregulates CTSL1 as a competitive endogenous RNA and promotes ovarian cancer metastasis

Xinjing Wang et al.

Summary: The study identified a novel pseudogene, lnc-CTSLP8, in ovarian cancer with significantly elevated expression in metastatic tumor tissues. Overexpression of lnc-CTSLP8 promoted ovarian cancer growth in vitro and in vivo, enhanced autophagy and EMT, and upregulated CTSL1 as a competitive endogenous RNA. Moreover, inhibition of CTSL1 and overexpression of miR-199a-5p reversed the effects of lnc-CTSLP8 overexpression, suggesting its potential as a therapeutic target for metastatic ovarian cancer.

Dysregulations of long non-coding RNAs-The emerging lnc in environmental carcinogenesis

Po-Shun Wang et al.

Summary: Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) are RNA molecules over 200 nucleotides in length that play important roles in regulating gene expression and normal physiological processes. Dysregulation of lncRNAs is closely associated with the development and progression of diseases, particularly cancer. Environmental carcinogens such as metal carcinogens may promote cancer development by affecting lncRNA expression.

Gastritis, Gastric Polyps and Gastric Cancer

Helge Waldum et al.

Summary: Despite a decrease in prevalence over the past few decades, gastric cancer remains a significant global cause of death, with Helicobacter pylori infection reduction being a key factor. The carcinogenic effects of H. pylori are likely due to hypergastrinemia and autoimmune gastritis, while long-term use of proton pump inhibitors may also predispose individuals to ECL cell neoplasia. Additionally, gastric polyps, although generally low in malignant potential, can still pose a cancer risk and share some common risk factors and mechanisms with gastric cancer.
