Calcipotriol attenuates liver fibrosis through the inhibition of vitamin D receptor-mediated NF-κB signaling pathway

Jian Gong et al.

Summary: Liver fibrosis is an inevitable stage in the development of chronic liver disease to cirrhosis. Interventional treatment and controlling the disease at this stage can reduce the incidence of liver cirrhosis. The expression of VDR in liver tissues of patients with liver fibrosis is negatively correlated with alpha-SMA, Col-1, and liver fibrosis stages. Calcipotriol, a VDR agonist, effectively reduces the degree of liver fibrosis by inhibiting the deposition of ECM and activation of HSCs.

Therapeutic effects of mesenchymal stem cells and vitamin D on Bleomycin triggered lung damage in male adult albino rats

Eman E. Elwakeel et al.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the significance of vitamin D and bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells as therapeutic agents on lung injuries caused by Bleomycin. The results showed that mesenchymal stem cells derived from bone marrow were more effective in reducing lung fibrosis and inflammation compared to vitamin D treatment.

Effects of calcitriol and paricalcitol on renal fibrosis in CKD

Laura Martinez-Arias et al.

Summary: In this study, it was found that the use of VDRAs paricalcitol and calcitriol effectively attenuated renal interstitial fibrosis induced by chronic kidney disease. Paricalcitol was more effective in regulating RAAS activation, inhibiting inflammation, and epithelial/mesenchymal transition compared to calcitriol.

Vitamin D intoxication in patients with cystic fibrosis: report of a single-center cohort

Thomas Plante-Bordeneuve et al.

Summary: The study highlighted the association between vitamin D toxicity and manufacturing or intake errors, with patients with exocrine pancreatic insufficiency at a higher risk of overdose. Errors in the preparation of liposoluble vitamin pills were identified as a common cause of intoxication, with trituration and dosing errors being the most frequent contributors.
