Biochanin A induces a brown-fat phenotype via improvement of mitochondrial biogenesis and activation ofAMPKsignaling in murineC3H10T1/2 mesenchymal stem cells

Md. Shamim Rahman et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates that Biochanin A induces the formation of brown-fat-like adipocytes in C3H10T1/2 MSCs, promotes mitochondrial biogenesis, and activates thermogenesis through the AMPK signaling pathway. Further clinical research is needed to validate Biochanin A as an inducer of a brown-fat-like phenotype.

High-fat diet-induced upregulation of exosomal phosphatidylcholine contributes to insulin resistance

Anil Kumar et al.

Summary: This study reveals that lean mice become insulin resistant after being administered exosomes isolated from the feces of obese mice fed a high-fat diet or from patients with type II diabetes. The altered lipid composition of exosomes from high-fat diet-fed mice affects the uptake by macrophages and hepatocytes, leading to inhibition of the insulin signaling pathway. Exosome-derived phosphatidylcholine activates AhR, inhibiting the expression of genes essential for activation of the insulin signaling pathway.

Increase in PPARγ inhibitory phosphorylation by Fetuin-A through the activation of Ras-MEK-ERK pathway causes insulin resistance

Snehasis Das et al.

Summary: The study revealed that FetA-mediated activation of Ras through the Ras-MEK-ERK pathway plays a crucial role in regulating PPARγ inhibitory phosphorylation, affecting the crosstalk between adipocytes and myocytes; FetA triggers TNFα production in inflamed adipocytes, leading to the activation of Ras, and subsequently, impairs adiponectin levels and disrupts mitochondrial ATP production in skeletal muscle cells, causing imbalance in energy homeostasis and loss of insulin sensitivity.

Brown and beige adipose tissue regulate systemic metabolism through a metabolite interorgan signaling axis

Anna Whitehead et al.

Summary: The study identifies a group of metabolites synthesized in brown adipose tissue that can influence the metabolism of fat tissue and skeletal muscle, with anti-obesity effects in mouse models of obesity and diabetes. Brown and beige adipose tissue appear to have a significant impact on systemic metabolism through secreted signals.

Summary: The study revealed that higher circulating concentrations of FGF-21 were significantly associated with greater odds of developing metachronous colorectal adenoma, in addition to being previously associated with colorectal cancer. Adjusted odd ratios for developing colorectal adenoma were significantly higher in the second and third tertiles of FGF-21 levels compared to the lowest tertile.
