Chromosomal Mapping of Tandem Repeats Revealed Massive Chromosomal Rearrangements and Insights Into Senna tora Dysploidy

Nomar Espinosa Waminal et al.

Summary: The study reveals the significant role of massive chromosomal rearrangements in shaping the unique dysploid karyotype of Senna tora by analyzing the composition and abundance of tandem repeats in its genome, and comparing their distribution with a closely related euploid species Senna occidentalis.

Molecular Evolution and Organization of Ribosomal DNA in the Hawkweed Tribe Hieraciinae (Cichorieae, Asteraceae)

Judith Fehrer et al.

Summary: The molecular evolution of ribosomal DNA in the subfamily Hieraciinae is highly dynamic and subject to concerted evolution, influencing sequence homogenization. 5S-NTS sequences generally show better homogenization compared to ITS and ETS sequences. In some species, the homogenization of ITS/ETS and 5S-NTS sequences proceed in different directions.

Descending Dysploidy and Bidirectional Changes in Genome Size Accompanied Crepis (Asteraceae) Evolution

Magdalena Senderowicz et al.

Summary: The study on the evolution of karyotype and genome size in Crepis species revealed the presence of different base chromosome numbers and recurrent origins in different lineages. The increase in karyotype asymmetry accompanied karyotype evolution. The significant variation in genome sizes suggests that, besides changes in chromosome numbers, the amplification/elimination of repetitive DNAs may have played a role in genome and taxa differentiation within the genus.

Chromosome inheritance and meiotic stability in allopolyploid Brassica napus

Zhiyong Xiong et al.

Summary: Resynthesized allopolyploid Brassica napus exhibit high chromosomal instability during meiosis, including nonhomologous centromere association, homoeologous recombination leading to translocation, and homoeologous chromosome replacement. In contrast, natural B. napus resolves meiotic errors mainly by suppressing homoeologous pairing and reducing homoeologous cross-overs.
