Synthesis of novel pyrrolidinyl chalcone derivatives: Spectral properties, energy band-gap tailoring, and amplified spontaneous emission

Summary: This study investigates the synthesis, structural features, and spectral properties of novel chalcone derivatives. The energy band gaps of these chalcones can be significantly lowered by adding electron-donating groups, while electron-withdrawing groups have the opposite effect. The substitution of functional groups can red-shift the ASE spectra to longer wavelengths.

Summary: In this study, three different chalcone compounds were successfully synthesized and characterized using various analytical techniques. The interaction between these synthesized chalcones and metal ions was investigated, showing that selective detection of metal ions is possible using molecularly modified chalcones in the solution. These findings provide valuable insights for future development of metal ion detection methods.

Efficacy of acetylcholinesterase inhibitors in Alzheimer's disease

Gabriella Marucci et al.

Summary: Alzheimer's disease is characterized by cognitive decline and behavioral manifestations, with the most common treatment being cholinesterase inhibitors. Despite their limited efficacy and gastrointestinal side effects, ChE-Is remain a pharmacotherapeutic resource for AD treatment. Investigating combinations with other drug classes may offer renewed interest in the use of ChE-Is for adult-onset dementia disorders.

Chalcone and its analogs: Therapeutic and diagnostic applications in Alzheimer's disease

Pritam Thapa et al.

Summary: Chalcone, a small molecule with alpha, beta unsaturated carbonyl group, is considered a privileged structure in medicinal chemistry and shows a wide range of biological activities. Due to its small molecular size, cost-effective synthesis, and flexibility for modifications, chalcones are preferred candidates for therapeutic and diagnostic potential in Alzheimer's disease. Researchers are exploring chalcone and its analogs as single target therapeutic agents, multi-target directed ligands, and molecular imaging agents for AD.

The design of fluoroquinolone-based cholinesterase inhibitors: Synthesis, biological evaluation and in silico docking studies

Muhammad Mansha et al.

Summary: An enhanced acetylcholinesterase (AChE) activity is a hallmark in early stages of Alzheimer's disease, leading to decreased acetylcholine (ACh) levels and cholinergic dysfunction. New fluoroquinolone derivatives were synthesized and evaluated for AChE and BChE inhibitory activities, with the compound 7g showing the highest activity. Compounds with electronegative functions at the ortho position of the phenyl group exhibited higher activities, with molecular docking studies revealing conventional H-bonding interactions with active residues.

Deciphering the detailed structure-activity relationship of coumarins as Monoamine oxidase enzyme inhibitors-An updated review

Vishal Payyalot Koyiparambath et al.

Summary: In recent years, Monoamine oxidase (MAO) has become a target for treating neurodegenerative diseases such as anxiety, depression, Alzheimer's, and Parkinson's diseases. Coumarins, known for their ease of synthesis, high therapeutic potential, and reversibility in inhibiting MAOs, are considered potent scaffold among several classes of inhibitors. This review focuses on the research in this field from 2014 to 2020, with a major emphasis on the structure-activity relationship of coumarin derivatives.
