Mapping bacterial diversity and metabolic functionality of the human respiratory tract microbiome

Leonardo Mancabelli et al.

Summary: This study conducted a meta-analysis to investigate the correlation between microbial composition in the HRT and different compartments of the respiratory tract. Thirteen possible HRT-specific Community State Types were identified through this analysis, which appear to be specific to each anatomical region. Additionally, functional characterization revealed specific microbial metabolic features associated with different compartments of the respiratory tract.

Probiotic-mediated p38 MAPK immune signaling prolongs the survival of Caenorhabditis elegans exposed to pathogenic bacteria

Miroslav Dinic et al.

Summary: The host-microbiota cross-talk plays a crucial role in innate immune response and host resistance during infection. Probiotic strain Lactobacillus curvatus BGMK2-41 was shown to stimulate immune response and resistance in Caenorhabditis elegans against Staphylococcus aureus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa by activating the PMK-1/p38 MAPK immunity pathway. The study suggests that PMK-1/p38 MAPK-dependent immune regulation by BGMK2-41 is essential for probiotic-mediated C. elegans protection against gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria.
