Two Monoclonal Antibodies That Specifically Recognize Aspergillus Cell Wall Antigens and Can Detect Circulating Antigens in Infected Mice

Xihua Lian et al.

Summary: Invasive aspergillosis (IA) is a life-threatening disease mainly caused by Aspergillus fumigatus and Aspergillus flavus. Current diagnostic techniques for IA lack accuracy. Two monoclonal antibodies (1D2 and 4E4) provide a potentially promising diagnostic approach. These antibodies showed strong immunoreactivity against A. fumigatus and A. flavus. The antigens identified may be glycoproteins and the immunoreactivity is strong.

Aspergillus Lateral Flow Assay with Digital Reader for the Diagnosis of COVID-19-Associated Pulmonary Aspergillosis (CAPA): a Multicenter Study

Brice Autier et al.

Summary: This multicenter study evaluated the performance of the IMMY Aspergillus Galactomannan Lateral Flow Assay (LFA) for the diagnosis of pulmonary aspergillosis in patients with COVID-19-related acute respiratory failure, showing good sensitivity when used from respiratory samples but limited sensitivity in serum, possibly due to weak invasiveness during CAPA. Further mycological investigations are recommended for isolated results slightly above the cutoff.

Summary: Invasive pulmonary aspergillosis (IPA) is a life-threatening disease mainly affecting immunocompromised hosts. Testing for galactomannan in serum and bronchoalveolar lavage fluid is crucial for diagnosing the disease. The novel Aspergillus-specific galactomannoprotein enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) demonstrates strong correlation and similar test performance to the established Platelia Aspergillus GM ELISA, making it a potential alternative test for BALF samples from patients at risk for IPA.

Integrin αvβ6-TGFβ-SOX4 Pathway Drives Immune Evasion in Triple-Negative Breast Cancer

Archis Bagati et al.

Summary: SOX4 transcription factor plays a key role in mediating resistance to T cell-mediated cytotoxicity in TNBC cells, and inhibiting it can increase the expression of genes in important immune pathways. The integrin αvβ6 receptor regulates the expression of SOX4, and targeting the integrin αvβ6-TGFβ-SOX4 pathway provides therapeutic opportunities for TNBC and other aggressive cancers of epithelial origin.

Mechanisms of fungal dissemination

Ashley B. Strickland et al.

Summary: Fungal infections pose an increasing threat to global public health, with some species like Cryptococcus neoformans, Aspergillus fumigatus, and Candida albicans causing life-threatening diseases that result in over one million deaths worldwide each year. Future directions in research include understanding the mechanisms of fungal dissemination and the process of immune cells eliminating fungi.
