Enhanced uropathogenic Escherichia coli-induced infection in uroepithelial cells by sugar through TLR-4 and JAK/STAT1 signaling pathways

Chen-Hsun Ho et al.

Summary: The study found that sugar enhances UPEC infection in uroepithelial cells by up-regulating the transduced circuit between TLR-4-mediated UPEC interaction and JAK/STAT-1 signal pathways. This mechanism may be responsible for the increased UPEC infection in uroepithelial cells by inhibiting the synergistic amplification of TLR-4-mediated UPEC interaction and JAK/STAT1 signaling pathways.

Insulin Downregulated the Infection of Uropathogenic Escherichia coli (UPEC) in Bladder Cells in a High-Glucose Environment through JAK/STAT Signaling Pathway

Chen-Hsun Ho et al.

Summary: The study found that insulin pretreatment significantly reduced UPEC infection in bladder cells of diabetic individuals in a high-glucose environment, while also inhibiting the JAK/STAT transduction pathway, without affecting the expression of the insulin receptor.

Ribonuclease 7 polymorphism rs1263872 reduces antimicrobial activity and associates with pediatric urinary tract infections

Keith R. Pierce et al.

Summary: Children with UTI have a higher prevalence of the RNASE7 rs1263872 variant, which may increase susceptibility to UTI by suppressing RNase 7's antibacterial activity. Experiment results indicate that the wild-type RNase 7 has greater bactericidal activity against UPEC compared to the missense variant. Overexpression of wild-type RNase 7 in human urothelial cultures reduces UPEC invasive infection compared to mutant overexpression.
