MiR-30d Participates in Vincristine-Induced Neuropathic Pain by Down-Regulating GAD67

Han Wang et al.

Summary: In vincristine-induced neuropathy, the interaction between GAD67 and miR-30d leads to downregulation of GAD67, which exacerbates neuropathic pain. Intrathecal injection of miR-30d antagomir may have a relieving effect on pain.

Epidemiology of stomach cancer

Milena Ilic et al.

Summary: Despite a decline in incidence and mortality, stomach cancer remains a major global health challenge, with Asia reporting the majority of new cases and deaths. Risk factors for stomach cancer include Helicobacter pylori infection, dietary factors, tobacco, obesity, and radiation. Reducing exposure to risk factors, as well as screening and early detection, are crucial for preventing stomach cancer.

Global cancer statistics 2020: GLOBOCAN estimates of incidence and mortality worldwide for 36 cancers in 185 countries

Hyuna Sung et al.

Summary: The global cancer burden in 2020 saw an estimated 19.3 million new cancer cases and almost 10.0 million cancer deaths. Female breast cancer surpassed lung cancer as the most commonly diagnosed cancer, while lung cancer remained the leading cause of cancer death. These trends are expected to rise in 2040, with transitioning countries experiencing a larger increase compared to transitioned countries due to demographic changes and risk factors associated with globalization and a growing economy. Efforts to improve cancer prevention measures and provision of cancer care in transitioning countries will be crucial for global cancer control.

Clinical and biochemical markers in CIPN: A reappraisal

R. Bonomo et al.

Summary: The increased survival of cancer patients has led to a growing concern over the long-term consequences of antineoplastic treatment, particularly chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN). Clinical and biochemical markers are crucial for defining the potential risk and resolution of CIPN, while metabolomics markers are being studied for more accurate indicators of peripheral nerve damage.

Summary: Cancer diagnosis and treatment are significant events with potential severe side effects, including chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN). Some patients may face chronic symptoms, highlighting the importance of prevention and treatment strategies. Improved survival rates for cancer patients may lead to an increased incidence of CIPN in the future.

Neuroinflammatory Process Involved in Different Preclinical Models of Chemotherapy-Induced Peripheral Neuropathy

Giulia Fumagalli et al.

Summary: Peripheral neuropathies can be hereditary or acquired, with the acquired form often caused by exposure to toxic agents like antineoplastic compounds used in chemotherapy. The use of anticancer drugs can affect different structures and mechanisms of the peripheral nervous system, leading to cognitive impairment and painful symptoms. Neuroinflammation is believed to play a relevant role in the pathophysiology of Chemotherapy-Induced Peripheral Neuropathy (CIPN).

MicroRNAs and angiogenesis: a new era for the management of colorectal cancer

Yufei Tang et al.

Summary: MiRNAs are small noncoding RNA molecules consisting of only 20-22 nucleotides, involved in gene silencing and translation suppression by targeting and binding to mRNA. They play a crucial role in maintaining a normal physiological environment by influencing various cellular pathways, including those related to cancer development. MiRNAs are actively studied for their bidirectional regulation of angiogenesis in colorectal cancer, with implications for developing new therapeutic strategies.

Oxaliplatin-Induced Neuropathy: Genetic and Epigenetic Profile to Better Understand How to Ameliorate This Side Effect

Jacopo Junio Valerio Branca et al.

Summary: Oxaliplatin, commonly used as a chemotherapeutic agent for colorectal cancer and other malignancies, disrupts tumor growth through DNA synthesis inhibition, leading to cancer cell death. However, it also causes systemic side effects, including nerve damage. Recent research has shown that oxaliplatin can alter genetic and epigenetic profiles of nerve cells, potentially offering new treatments for neuropathic pain.

Overexpression of miR-378 Alleviates Chronic Sciatic Nerve Injury by Targeting EZH2

Pengfei Gao et al.

Summary: In this study, miR-378 was found to be down-regulated in a chronic sciatic nerve injury (CCI) rat model, while its overexpression provided significant relief in pain management. EZH2 was identified as a downstream target of miR-378, and the up-regulation of EZH2 reduced the inhibitory effects of miR-378 on neuropathic pain development. The miR-378/EZH2 axis may serve as a novel therapeutic target for neuropathic pain in clinical treatment.

The course of peripheral neuropathy and its association with health-related quality of life among colorectal cancer patients

Cynthia S. Bonhof et al.

Summary: The study found that among chemotherapy-treated patients, a high level of sensory and motor peripheral neuropathy symptoms significantly increased from baseline to 1-year follow-up, and did not return to baseline level after 2 years. Patients with high levels of sensory or motor peripheral neuropathy reported a worse health-related quality of life, including physical, role, emotional, cognitive, and social aspects. Future studies should focus on developing targeted interventions to reduce the impact of chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy on patients' lives.
