Macrophages expedite cell proliferation of prostate intraepithelial neoplasia through their downstream target ERK

Mikalah U. Thomas et al.

Summary: Chronic inflammation, characterized by increased macrophages in PIN areas, enhances proliferation of PIN cells through the secretion of cytokines such as C5a, CXCL1, and CCL2. These cytokines activate ERK and JNK signaling pathways in PIN cells, with ERK blockade specifically inhibiting macrophage-induced cell proliferation. This study provides mechanistic insights into how macrophages contribute to the progression of PIN during prostate cancer development, offering valuable information for improving prostate cancer therapy strategies.

Causes of Death Among Patients With Metastatic Prostate Cancer in the US From 2000 to 2016

Ahmed O. Elmehrath et al.

Summary: This retrospective cohort study analyzed the causes of death among US patients with metastatic prostate cancer from 2000 to 2016. Noncancer causes, such as cardiovascular diseases, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and cerebrovascular diseases, were found to be significant contributors to mortality among these patients.
