Non-catalytic vapor synthesis of α-Si3N4 nanowhiskers via direct nitridation of silicon powders

Yu Lan et al.

Summary: Single crystalline alpha-Si3N4 nanowhiskers were synthesized by nitridation of NH3-pretreated silicon powders under N-2/H-2 atmosphere without catalysts. NH3 pretreatment significantly influences the phase and microstructure of the products, resulting in different compositions.

Densification mechanism of stereolithographical dense Si3N4 ceramics with CeO2 as sintering additive by field assisted sintering

Rao Wei-dong et al.

Summary: In this study, dense Si3N4 ceramics were successfully fabricated using a combination of sintering additive and field assisted sintering. It was found that adjusting process parameters could effectively improve specimen density, while higher applied pressure strengthened the densification dynamic process. Additionally, grain boundary slipping played a dominating role in the densification of stereolithographic Si3N4 ceramics.
