Nanoindentation, Scratch, and Corrosion Studies of Aluminum Composites Reinforced with Submicron B4C Particles

Deepak M. Shinde et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that increasing the content of B4C particles can enhance the hardness and scratch resistance of Al/B4C composites, while decreasing the corrosion resistance. Observations and tests conducted using FESEM and EDX provide insights into the microstructural changes and performance variations of the composites.

Effect of ZrB2 on microstructural, mechanical and corrosion behaviour of aluminium (AA7178) alloy matrix composite prepared by the stir casting route

S. Dinesh Kumar et al.

Summary: A new class of aluminium alloy matrix composites reinforced with ZrB2 particles was developed using the bottom pouring type stir casting process. The addition of ZrB2 particles improved the mechanical and corrosion behaviors of the composites. Through electrochemical assessments and SEM analysis, the homogeneous distribution of ZrB2 particles and the enhanced corrosion resistance of the composites were demonstrated.

Study of mechanical and metallurgical characterization of correlated aluminium hybrid metal matrix composites

V. Boobesh Nathan et al.

Summary: This study investigates the mechanical and metallurgical properties of Aluminium Hybrid Metal Matrix Composites (AHMMC's) with Aluminium alloy 6061 as the base material and Silicon Carbide (SiC) and Zirconium Di-Oxide (ZrO2) as reinforcements. Results show that the mechanical properties such as hardness, tensile strength, compressive strength, and impact energy improve with increasing reinforcement weight percentages, confirmed by metallurgical microscope, XRD, and EDAX analysis. The hybrid composite with 6 wt% SiC and 3 wt% ZrO2 in AA6061 exhibited the best properties and is recommended for automobile component replacement.
