Cohesive GTN model for ductile fracture simulation

Noe Brice Nkoumbou Kaptchouang et al.

Summary: The study focuses on micromechanical modeling and simulation of crack initiation and propagation in ductile materials using a cohesive-volumetric approach. The proposed cohesive zone model is based on a micromechanical approach and is implemented in the XPER computer code. The efficient cohesive-GTN model is highlighted for its direct derivation of mechanical parameters from the micromechanical approach.

Efficient parameters identification of a modified GTN model of ductile fracture using machine learning

Dong Chen et al.

Summary: An efficient parameter identification strategy for a new damage model was proposed in this research, utilizing a combination of machine learning algorithm including resilient back-propagation neuro network and genetic algorithm, with simulations implemented in terms of ABAQUS/Explicit. The same optimization strategy was used to reduce simulation time.

Formability prediction using bifurcation criteria and GTN damage model

Muhammad Waqar Nasir et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the combination of plastic instability criteria based on bifurcation theory with the GTN damage model for predicting diffuse and localized necking. The hierarchical prediction order of different instability criteria is consistent, with the GB criterion providing a lower bound and the LOE criterion representing an upper bound in necking prediction.

Numerical implementation of a non-local GTN model for explicit FE simulation of ductile damage and fracture

Sondre Bergo et al.

Summary: This study presents the numerical implementation and initial applications of a non-local Gurson-Tvergaard-Needleman (GTN) model for explicit finite element analysis, discussing the effect of the material characteristic length on ductile damage and fracture behavior and on the mesh sensitivity of the results. The study shows that simulation results obtained in all stages of the ductile fracture process are mesh independent for a certain mesh size ratio related to the material characteristic length when the non-local integral is evaluated on the current configuration.

The modified GTN-Thomason criterion for modelling of ductile fracture considering shear factor and size effect in micro-scaled plastic deformation

W. T. Li et al.

Summary: Coarse grains result in fewer voids on fracture surfaces and higher flow strength, while finer grains accelerate the occurrence of shear-dominated fracture and hinder normal tensile fracture. By introducing shear factor and size effect, the modified GTN-Thomason criterion predicts ductile fracture in micro-scaled plastic deformation and enhances understanding and prediction of ductile fracture.

An analysis of Lode effects in ductile failure

M. E. Torki et al.

Summary: This study investigates the effects of the third stress invariant in ductile failure of porous materials, using an isotropic multi-surface model to analyze the yielding behavior and failure characteristics. It is found that failure typically occurs after the transition to inhomogeneous yielding and strongly depends on the Lode parameter.
