nMechanical behavior simulation of particulate-filled composite at meso-scale by numerical manifold method

Ge Kang et al.

Summary: Particulate-filled composite (PFC) is a complex multi-phase material, and it is difficult to reveal its deformation and damage mechanism using traditional macro-scale methods. The study used the numerical manifold method to simulate the meso-scale mechanical response of PFC, analyzed the damage morphology evolution of PFC, derived macroscopic equivalent damage evolution equations, and discussed the effects of loading levels on mechanical properties. Two categories of constitutive models were proposed to describe the macroscopic equivalent mechanical behavior of PFC.

A micromechanics-based artificial neural networks model for elastic properties of short fiber composites

N. Mentges et al.

Summary: In this study, a micromechanics-based Artificial Neural Networks (ANN) model is developed to predict the elastic properties of short fiber reinforced composites accurately and quickly. The model uses a two-step approach, combining Finite Element Analysis and Orientation Averaging to create the required training and validation data, and its capability for fair predictions is proven by comparing to experimental results from literature.

Prediction of Short Fiber Composite Properties by an Artificial Neural Network Trained on an RVE Database

Kevin Breuer et al.

Summary: An artificial neural network was designed and trained to predict the elastic properties of short fiber reinforced plastics, using finite element simulations as the data basis. The network showed good prediction accuracy for a wide range of parameters and outperformed traditional homogenization methods. Training the network on an extended dataset was successful and helped avoid calculation-intensive data points without sacrificing prediction quality.
