Multicentric evaluation of BioFire FilmArray Pneumonia Panel for rapid bacteriological documentation of pneumonia

Nabil Gastli et al.

Summary: The study evaluated the performance of FA-PP in detecting bacterial pathogens and antibiotic resistance genes in respiratory specimens, showing that it performed well in detecting pathogens in most specimens. The positive and negative percentage agreement values of FA-PP compared to culture were high, but there were some false-negative results. In addition, there was some discordance between the semi-quantification results of FA-PP and culture results.

Nucleic acid amplification tests on respiratory samples for the diagnosis of coronavirus infections: a systematic review and meta-analysis

Mona Mustafa Hellou et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the diagnostic test accuracy of nucleic acid amplification tests (NAATs) for coronavirus infections and found that real-time RT-PCR assays have higher sensitivity. The pooled results indicated that on average 10% of patients with coronavirus infections might be missed with PCR tests.

Pneumonia

Antoni Torres et al.

Summary: Pneumonia is a common acute respiratory infection that affects individuals of all ages globally, causing high morbidity and mortality. It can be caused by various microorganisms, and timely identification of causative pathogens is crucial for effective treatment. New therapies and diagnostic tests are being developed to improve the management of pneumonia.

MALDI-TOF Mass Spectrometry Technology as a Tool for the Rapid Diagnosis of Antimicrobial Resistance in Bacteria

Eun-Jeong Yoon et al.

Summary: MALDI-TOF MS has become a routine diagnostic process for infectious diseases, offering a fast, low-cost, and simple methodology in clinical microbiology laboratories. It can identify antimicrobial resistance through various approaches, such as comparing bacterial spectra and determining peak shifts in the presence of antimicrobial drugs. This technique shows promise for accurate and rapid identification of AMR in bacteria.
