Direct high-purity hydrogen production from ammonia by using a membrane reactor combining V-10mol%Fe hydrogen permeable alloy membrane with Ru/Cs2O/Pr6O11 ammonia decomposition catalyst

Kaori Omata et al.

Summary: The hydrogen production capabilities of a membrane reactor combining V-10 mol%Fe hydrogen permeable alloy membrane with Ru/Cs2O/Pr6O33 ammonia decomposition catalyst are investigated. The integration of the V-10 mol%Fe alloy membrane enhances the ammonia conversion rate and allows efficient extraction of high-purity hydrogen gas. Additionally, the membrane reactor exhibits excellent durability and sustained performance in hydrogen separation.

Compact ammonia reforming at low temperature using catalytic membrane reactors

Rok Sitar et al.

Summary: This study presents an efficient method for extracting high purity hydrogen from ammonia decomposition using a catalytic membrane reactor (CMR). By reducing the thickness of the Pd membrane and adding a commercial catalyst, the CMR can handle higher ammonia flowrates without sacrificing conversion. Zeolite clinoptilolite is used to reduce ammonia impurities to the required levels. Furthermore, the durability test shows significant improvement in membrane permeability.

High purity, self-sustained, pressurized hydrogen production from ammonia in a catalytic membrane reactor

Jose L. Cerrillo et al.

Summary: The combination of catalytic decomposition of ammonia and in situ separation of hydrogen shows promise for producing clean energy. A combination of cobalt-based catalysts and a Pd-Au membrane has been found to efficiently produce high purity hydrogen. The membrane reactor offers operational advantages and energy-economic benefits compared to conventional reactors.

H2 production via ammonia decomposition in a catalytic membrane reactor

Valentina Cechetto et al.

Summary: The membrane reactor proposed in this work allows for efficient recovery of hydrogen stored in ammonia, achieving high-purity hydrogen separation and ammonia decomposition simultaneously. Experimental results demonstrate that the introduction of a membrane in a conventional reactor can enhance performance and achieve high conversion rates for ammonia at sufficiently high temperatures.
