Azam Akhbari et al.

Summary: A start-up study was conducted on a lab-scale up-flow anaerobic sludge blanket fixed-film reactor (UASFF) to produce biohydrogen from palm oil mill effluent (POME). The study found that the reactor produced maximum hydrogen yield and had a certain COD removal effect under different hydraulic retention time and organic loading rate conditions. Additionally, characteristics of POME particles and microbial diversity evaluations were carried out, revealing bacterial communities that contributed to hydrogen fermentation.

Seyedeh Azadeh Alavi-Borazjani et al.

Summary: In this study, the Taguchi method was employed to optimize dark fermentative H2 production from the organic fraction of municipal solid waste. The optimal process parameters were found to be substrate concentration of 6 g-VS/L, ISR of 0.5, and temperature of 55 degrees C, with substrate concentration being the most influential factor on bio-H2 production. Confirmation experiments under optimal conditions demonstrated higher bio-H2 yields, confirming the reliability of the Taguchi method in optimizing the process.
