CO and C3H6 poisoning of hydrogen permeation across Pd77Ag23 alloy membranes: A comparative study with pure palladium

Justin Easa et al.

Summary: This study compares the inhibiting effects of CO and C3H6 on H-2 permeation across Pd77Ag23 and Pd membranes, showing that alloying Pd with Ag can enhance its sensitivity to poisoning. CO primarily inhibits H-2 permeation by adsorbing on available sites, while C3H6 affects electronic structure to hinder H-2 dissociation on both Pd and Pd77Ag23 surfaces.

Bcc V-Fe alloys for the hydrogen separation membranes: Hydrogen solubility and global character of alloying effect

V. N. Alimov et al.

Summary: The study investigates the solubility of hydrogen in V-xFe alloys and finds that Fe has a stronger inhibitory effect on the solubility compared to other elements. Hydrogen dissolution in V-xFe alloys follows Sieverts' law and the effect of alloying V with Fe on hydrogen solubility is mainly attributed to an increase in enthalpy of hydrogen solution.

Structural two-phase evolution of aminosilica-based silver-coordinated membranes for increased hydrogen separation

Ufafa Anggarini et al.

Summary: Silver-doped bis [3-(trimethoxysilyl) propyl] amine (BTPA) hybrid organosilica membranes were prepared to improve permeability and separation performance through sol-gel processing and coordination reactions. The two-phase structural evolution of silver coordination and nanoparticles reorganized the organosilica framework, resulting in improved separation in propane dehydrogenation.

Evaluating influences of impurities on hydrogen production in the reaction of Si with water using Si sludge

Shoki Kosai et al.

Summary: The reaction between silicon and water is considered a promising method for hydrogen production, but the manufacturing process of silicon requires a significant amount of energy. Research found that hydrogen cannot be produced from silicon sludge, potentially due to the presence of Al compounds as impurities, forming a hindering core-shell structure for hydrogen generation.

Surface and interface engineering in CO2-philic based UiO-66-NH2-PEI mixed matrix membranes via covalently bridging PVP for effective hydrogen purification

S. Ashtiani et al.

Summary: The defect-free mixed-matrix membrane based on PEI matrix with uniformly dispersed UiO-66-NH2 filler shows enhanced CO2/H-2 separation performance with improved polymer-filler interface interactions. The CO2 permeability reached 394 Barrer and the separation factor of 12, surpassing the 2008 Robeson reverse upper bound limit, due to the combination of diffusion-solution mechanism and preferential adsorption of CO2 via reversible reactions with amino groups in the membrane structure.

A novel integrated structure for hydrogen purification using the cryogenic method

Majid Aasadnia et al.

Summary: The cryogenic-based module is developed for hydrogen separation from gas mixtures, producing hydrogen-rich and hydrogen-lean streams through a network of heat exchangers and phase separators. Energy and exergy analysis show the impact of adjusting operational parameters on specific energy, power, exergy efficiency, and heat requirements. A comprehensive view is necessary to achieve desired results by changing operational parameters.

The influence of modifying nanoflower and nanostar type Pd coatings on low temperature hydrogen permeability through Pd-containing membranes

Iliya Petriev et al.

Summary: New methods have been developed to modify the surface of Pd-23%Ag alloy films, resulting in the production of palladium-containing nanostar and nanoflower type coatings to increase hydrogen permeability. The low current density during electrolytic deposition affects the formation of pentagonally structured surface modifiers. The unique structures of palladium nanostructures synthesized through these methods have not been achieved by other approaches.

Exploring the pivotal role of silver(I) additives in palladium-catalyzed NH2-directed C(sp3)-H arylation reactions

Ning Zhao et al.

Summary: The mechanism of Pd-catalyzed delta-C(sp(3))-H arylation of primary amines was explained through combined theoretical and experimental studies. It was found that all steps occur via heterodimeric Pd-Ag intermediates and transition states, instead of the monomeric Pd mechanism. Experimental detection of active heterodimeric Pd-Ag species confirmed the proposed mechanism.

First-principles study on the mechanical, thermal properties and hydrogen behavior of ternary V-Ni-M alloys

Yanli Lu et al.

Summary: The study found that the hydrogen solution energy of V-Ni-M alloys is higher than pure vanadium, but the ability to capture hydrogen atoms is lower. In addition, V-Ni-M alloys exhibit higher resistance to embrittlement and smaller diffusion coefficients, making them suitable for hydrogen separation. In terms of mechanical properties, V-Ni-Ti has the best deformation resistance, while V-Ni-Si performs best in terms of thermal properties.

Prospect of hydrogen energy in Asia-Pacific: A perspective review on techno-socio-economy nexus

H. B. Aditiya et al.

Summary: This study reviews the potential establishment of an inter-state hydrogen energy system in the Asia-Pacific region, evaluating countries' technological, social, and economic capacities. Countries with active hydrogen policies and high R&D capacity are likely to lead the strategy, while those with high primary energy supply and economic advantage will benefit the group in energy and commercial resource provisions. Social acceptance and existing energy profiles are also key factors in determining countries' readiness to adopt the new hydrogen energy system.

Summary: High purity hydrogen is crucial for the lifetime of proton exchange membrane fuel cells, but current industrial processes for producing hydrogen are costly and inefficient. Adsorption and membrane technologies, particularly using MOFs, are promising for hydrogen purification. This review summarizes the performance of MOFs in hydrogen purification and discusses the challenges in commercial application.

Summary: This study theoretically explored the hydrogen separation performance of Pd-Cu and Pd-Ni alloy membranes, which exhibit superior selectivity to H-2 over N-2, CO, CO2, CH4, and H2S at varied temperatures, surpassing industrial production limits. Experimental conclusions are consistent with density functional theory calculations, further supported by molecular dynamics simulations.
