Temperature-Dependent Electro-osmotic Flow Reversal in a Nanotube with High Surface Charge Density

Zhenyu Liu et al.

Summary: This study investigated the electro-osmotic flow (EOF) of a potassium chloride (KCl) solution in a carbon nanotube (CNT) at different temperatures, revealing a non-monotonic relationship between temperature and the degree of charge inversion. Below 300K, the ion velocity and degree of charge inversion increase with temperature before decreasing significantly. The combined influence of viscosity, ion velocity, degree of charge inversion, and ionic hydration capacity results in a slowing down of the rate of increase in reverse EOF velocity with increasing temperature.

Ion transport in nanopores with highly overlapping electric double layers

Yoav Green

Summary: Investigating ion transport through nanopores with highly overlapping electric double layers is challenging due to the non-linear Poisson-Boltzmann equation. By leveraging the approach of Schnitzer and Yariv, a new asymptotic solution has been derived to address highly debated issues and determine the power-law scaling of nanopore conductances. The findings also compare the coefficients of transport for overlapping electric double layers with the uniform potential model.

Continuous electrochemical water splitting from natural water sources via forward osmosis

Samuel S. Veroneau et al.

Summary: This study presents a method of utilizing impure water sources for electrochemical water splitting by leveraging forward osmosis, maintaining a concentration gradient that induces water flow and allows for water splitting without pretreatment and minimal energy efficiency losses.
