Early outcomes after definitive chemoradiation therapy with Vienna/Venezia hybrid high-dose rate brachytherapy applicators for cervical cancer: A single-institution experience

Summary: The Vienna and Venezia hybrid intracavitary/interstitial brachytherapy applicators are used for cervical cancers unsuitable for intracavitary brachytherapy alone. Limited outcome data exists outside of published experience of the EMBRACE group. Feasibility and early outcomes were reported in treating 61 patients with cervical cancer using these hybrid applicators, showing good tolerance and higher survival rates.

Summary: This report describes the persistence of late substantial treatment-related patient-reported symptoms in survivors of locally advanced cervical cancer. A subgroup of patients with persistent symptoms was identified, emphasizing the importance of distinguishing between transient and persisting symptoms in the aftercare of LACC survivors. The majority of LAPERS events occurred in patients without corresponding severe physician-assessed morbidity.
