The role of alexithymia in memory and executive functioning across the lifespan

Anthony N. Correro et al.

Summary: Alexithymia, characterized by difficulties in identifying and describing feelings, as well as externally oriented thinking, has been linked to poorer memory and executive functioning in both younger and older adults. This personality trait may act as a risk factor for age-related cognitive decline, particularly when high levels of DIF or EOT are present. Further research is needed to better understand the complex relationships among age, alexithymia, memory, and executive functioning.
