A General Propensity Score for Signal Identification Using Tree-Based Scan Statistics

Shirley Wang et al.

Summary: The study evaluated 5 candidate propensity scores for 4 pairs of medications with well-understood safety profiles. The results showed that including tailored covariates for exposure did not significantly affect screening results. The choice of propensity score depends on the balance between residual confounding control and statistical power.

Surveillance of Antidepressant Safety (SADS): Active Signal Detection of Serious Medical Events Following SSRI and SNRI Initiation Using Big Healthcare Data

Mia Aakjaer et al.

Summary: This study proposed and tested a near real-time epidemiological surveillance system for detecting and quantifying potential safety signals following the initiation of SSRIs and SNRIs. Through sequential, cumulative analyses, unique combinations of potential safety signals were identified, many of which were not included in current summaries of product characteristics. Larger populations are needed to further evaluate rare events and less commonly used antidepressants.

A General Propensity Score for Signal Identification Using Tree-Based Scan Statistics

Shirley Wang et al.

Summary: The study investigated the selection of propensity score (PS) and related covariates in signal identification research. The results suggest that the choice of PS depends on balancing residual confounding concerns with loss of power, and how to customize confounding control for specific outcomes.
