Physical Activity, Mental Health and Wellbeing of Adults within and during the Easing of COVID-19 Restrictions, in the United Kingdom and New Zealand

Summary: This study found that moderate-to-high volumes of physical activity were associated with better mental health and wellbeing during and after the COVID-19 pandemic. Compared to individuals engaging in low physical activity, those participating in moderate or high volume had significantly better mental health and wellbeing.

Physical activity, mental health and well-being of adults during initial COVID-19 containment strategies: A multi-country cross-sectional analysis

Summary: The study found that the initial COVID-19 restrictions have differentially impacted upon physical activity habits of individuals based on their age and sex, which has important implications for international policy and guideline recommendations. Public health interventions encouraging physical activity should target specific groups (e.g., men, young adults) who are most vulnerable to the negative effects of physical distancing and/or self-isolation.
