Optimization of gas diffusion layer in high temperature PEMFC with the focuses on thickness and porosity

Lingchao Xia et al.

Summary: This study investigates the effects of gas diffusion layer (GDL) thickness and porosity on flow uniformity, diffusion flux, and ohmic resistance in a high temperature proton exchange membrane fuel cell (HT-PEMFC) using a numerical non-isothermal 3D model. The research reveals that increasing GDL thickness and porosity leads to higher flow uniformity and ohmic resistance, but the influence on diffusion flux is opposite. The optimal GDL thickness and porosity are identified for improved performance in the fuel cell system.

Numerical investigation into the effect of serpentine flow channel with a variable cross-section on the performance of proton exchange membrane fuel cell

Chen Li et al.

Summary: This study found that changing the cross-section of the serpentine flow channel can increase the current density of the PEMFC, but it also reduces the uniformity of the current density distribution. When the cross-sectional shape of the flow channel changes from a trapezoid to a triangle, the oxygen is more concentrated and more reaction heat is generated, resulting in higher current density.
