Clinical and demographic features of hidradenitis suppurativa: a multicentre study of 1221 patients with an analysis of risk factors associated with disease severity

E. Ozkur et al.

Summary: This multicentre study investigated the demographic and clinical features of Hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) and determined risk factors of disease severity among 1221 patients from 29 centres. Male sex, involvement of the genitals, and inguinal region were found to be important determinants of disease severity, while comorbidity, longer disease duration, longer diagnosis delay, and a higher number of smoking pack-years were associated with more severe disease. The study provides insight into the variation in HS demographics and clinical features, contributing to a better understanding of the disease and its severity factors.

Prevalence of inflammatory bowel disease among pediatric patients with hidradenitis suppurativa and the potential role of screening with fecal calprotectin

Allison M. Lloyd-McLennan et al.

Summary: Previous studies have shown an increased prevalence of inflammatory bowel disease in adults with hidradenitis suppurativa (HS). This study found that pediatric patients with HS may also have a higher prevalence of IBD, suggesting more widespread screening may be necessary. While fecal calprotectin (FC) is not commonly used in this population, it may be a useful tool for screening for IBD.
